is a list of primarily the Upper Mississippi River Basin Locks, Dams and Recreational
stops.
However
some flood damage has occurred in the past. It is best to call ahead before
making definite plans
on camping
or related boating stops.
Mississippi
River Sites. St. Paul, Minnesota -south.
- At the Head
of the Mississippi is Itasca State Park where you can literally hop across
the River.
- Upper St.
Anthony Falls Locks and Dam. Fishing, Restrooms, Drinking Water. A visitor
center gives you a panoramic view of the lock and Dam. Near downtown Minneapolis,
Minnesota.
- U.S.A. Falls
Locks and Dam. (Downstream) Fishing. Northwestern Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Lock &
Dam # 1. Fishing, Restrooms, Drinking Water, Visitor Information Center.
Southern Minneapolis, Minnesota.

historical landmarks nearby and the fishing between here and #9 are the best
in the upper Mississippi River area! Just minutes south of Millstone Landing.

south of Davenport, Iowa. On the southern edge of Mountpelier, Iowa.

- HOGBACK
ISLAND (A popular Stop). Hogback Island is located on the Mississippi
River about 8 miles north of Quincy, Illinois. The main spot has one mile
of yellow sand beach facing the Missouri shore. The southern tip of the island
is a large sand bar and is commonly referred to as Piggyback. You can find
lots of boats and sun worshipers their on almost any good weekend all summer
long. There is a huge gathering on this Island every year. Usually sponsored
by the Quincy JayCee's and Radio Stations with any proceeds being donated
to Muscular Dystrophy. A barge with food vendors is brought to Hogback for
this occasion. There are literally hundreds of boats at Hogback for this event.
Boaters from St. Louis to Wisconsin travel to Hogback for this occasion. The
gathering is always held on the Sunday before Labor Day weekend. Weather conditions
occasionally may force rescheduling to the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

side upstream from the Melvin Price Locks & Dam.
- Riverlands
Environmental Demo Area. 43000 Acres, Fishing, Picnic Day / Use, Located
on the Missouri side adjacent to the Melvin Price Locks & Dam.
- Melvin Price
Locks & Dam. Fishing. One of the busiest locks. Located just below
the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
- Locks #
27. Restrooms, Drinking Water, Visitor Information Center. Located on
the Chain of Rocks Canal. Features a visitor overlook. This is the southern
most lock on the Mississippi.
